Morris County man charged with DWI, assault by auto after crash in Bloomingdale

BLOOMINGDALE BOROUGH, NJ (Passaic County) – A Morris County man is facing multiple charges following a motor vehicle crash early Saturday morning in Bloomingdale Borough.

On March 15, at around 3:46 a.m., police responded to the area of Union Avenue and Morse Lakes Road after receiving a 9-1-1 alert from an Apple iPhone indicating a motor vehicle accident, police said.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a Ford Explorer overturned on its roof in a wooded area off the roadway. The driver, Eleazar Jimenezespinoza, 40, of Butler, and his passenger had self-extricated from the vehicle by breaking a rear window, police said.

The passenger, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected into the back seat and sustained significant facial injuries. He was transported to Morristown Medical Center for treatment, police said.

Jimenezespinoza showed signs of intoxication and was subsequently arrested. He was charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI) along with multiple motor vehicle violations. Due to the severity of the passenger’s injuries, Jimenezespinoza was also criminally charged with assault by auto, police said.

The accident scene was turned over to the Traffic Bureau, which conducted a thorough investigation with assistance from the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit.
