Lopatcong Township police warn of compromised records clerk email

LOPATCONG TOWNSHIP, N.J. — The Lopatcong Township Police Department is warning residents that its records clerk’s email account was compromised overnight and advising anyone who received a suspicious message not to open it.

In a notice, police said recipients may have received an email around 6:30 p.m. from the address destefanok@lopatcongtwp.com.

“DO NOT OPEN IT,” the department said in the alert. Officials instructed recipients to report the message as spam or phishing and delete it.

The department apologized for the inconvenience and thanked the public for its understanding.

No additional details about the breach were immediately released.
