Sussex County Community College to unveil new outdoor Fitness Court Oct. 15

NEWTON, N.J. (Sussex County) — Sussex County Community College will unveil a new outdoor Fitness Court Studio this month as part of an effort to expand access to health, wellness and physical activity opportunities for students and the community.

SCCC, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey and the National Fitness Campaign partnered to develop the new facility, which is located along College Hill Road on the upper SCCC campus.

Students, faculty, staff and community members are invited to attend a ribbon-cutting and grand opening at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15. The event will include an opportunity to tour the Fitness Court and learn about its seven exercise stations and Studio classroom.

The Fitness Court is part of a nationwide initiative led by the National Fitness Campaign to expand access to outdoor fitness opportunities. The facility allows users to leverage their own body weight for a full workout across seven exercise stations.

“The commissioner board, along with senior services, is excited about another venture with Sussex County Community College to help with the health and fitness of our community,” stated Chris Carney, Sussex County Commissioner.

Designed for people ages 14 and older, the Fitness Court offers exercises that can be adapted for a range of abilities and fitness levels. SCCC is one of the first 20 campaign partners building a network of Fitness Courts across New Jersey with support from Horizon.

Users can also download the free Fitness Court App, which provides guided workouts, instructional videos, fitness challenges and other resources.
