Fire damages apartment at Morris County senior center, displaces 2 residents
PARSIPPANY-TROY HILLS, N.J. (Morris County) — A fire at the Brookside Senior Center in Parsippany on Tuesday morning damaged two apartments and displaced two residents, according to police.
The Parsippany Police Department’s Communication Center received a 911 call at about 10:48 a.m. reporting a fire on the fifth floor of the building at 1111 Parsippany Boulevard.
Responding officers confirmed an active fire inside a fifth-floor apartment and began evacuating the building with the assistance of fire personnel, police said.
Multiple fire districts and EMS personnel responded to the scene. Firefighters extinguished the fire, and residents were later permitted to return to the building.
The resident of the apartment where the fire occurred made arrangements to stay with family after the Parsippany building inspector deemed the unit uninhabitable, according to police.
A resident on the fourth floor was relocated by building staff to another unit after their apartment sustained water damage.
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire. Police said two residents requested transportation to a hospital for unrelated health issues.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Parsippany Police Department’s arson investigator.
