Hunterdon County to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary with LEGO building workshop
RARITAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Hunterdon County will celebrate America’s 250th anniversary with a hands-on LEGO building workshop later this month, giving participants an opportunity to recreate historic and cultural landmarks from throughout the county.
The Hunterdon Celebrates America’s 250th Building Blocks Workshop will take place Saturday, Oct. 24, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Route 12 County Complex, 314 Route 12, in Raritan Township. Doors will open at 1:30 p.m.
The free event is open to Hunterdon County residents, but participation is limited to 50 teams. Advance registration is required.
Hunterdon County Commissioner Zach Rich said the workshop offers a creative way for participants to explore the county’s history while commemorating the nation’s 250th anniversary.
“I’m excited to see the creativity of our residents and all the unique representations of Hunterdon County’s architectural and cultural heritage that will come together during this event,” said Commissioner Rich. “As we celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, this is a fun and interactive way for families and residents of all ages to learn more about the history that makes Hunterdon County special.”
During the workshop, participants will use more than 100,000 LEGO building blocks to construct models of historic and cultural landmarks from across Hunterdon County.
Working in teams, participants will create structures representing the county’s architectural and cultural heritage. The completed models will then be placed on a 16-by-20-foot map of Hunterdon County, forming a collaborative display highlighting the area’s history.
The program is being presented in partnership with Building Blocks Workshops, an organization that uses LEGO building blocks to engage communities in exploring local architecture, history and culture through interactive activities.
County officials said the workshop is part of Hunterdon County’s ongoing celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States and is designed to connect participants with the people, places and stories that have shaped the county over generations.
Registration is required and can be completed through the Hunterdon County Cultural and Heritage Commission’s website at co.hunterdon.nj.us/2938/Hunterdon-250th-Building-Blocks-Workshop.
