Hackettstown Historical Society to host presentation on New Jersey diners Nov. 2
HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Warren County) — The Hackettstown Historical Society will host a presentation exploring the history, architecture and cultural significance of New Jersey diners on Monday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m.
The program, titled “New Jersey Diners,” will be presented by author and journalist Michael C. Gabriele at the American Legion Hall, 494 Willow Grove St. in Hackettstown.
Gabriele, who has worked as a journalist, freelance writer and author for more than 40 years, will discuss how diners have become an important part of New Jersey’s history and identity. His presentation will explore the unique architecture, classic menus and cultural roots of diners throughout the state.
According to the Hackettstown Historical Society, diners represent more than just places to eat, serving as gathering spots where generations of community members have connected through food, conversation and tradition. New Jersey is widely known as the “Diner Capital of the World,” reflecting the state’s longstanding association with diner culture.
Gabriele is the author of “Stories from New Jersey Diners: Monuments to Community,” a book examining the role diners have played in communities across the Garden State.
The presentation is open to the public, and refreshments will be provided. Admission is free for Hackettstown Historical Society members, while nonmembers are asked to make a $5 donation to the society’s speaker fund.
