Green Vision opens Sussex County campus for adults with developmental disabilities, offers free electronics recycling
LAFAYETTE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Sussex County) — Green Vision Inc., a nonprofit organization that provides programs for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, is now enrolling participants at its new Lafayette campus while offering free electronics recycling services to area residents.
The new facility, located at 197 Route 94 in the former CenturyLink building, serves adults ages 21 and older through a structured day program that combines hands-on electronics dismantling with opportunities to develop workplace and life skills.
Green Vision is an approved provider through the New Jersey Division of Developmental Disabilities and offers Community Inclusion services designed to help participants build confidence, improve communication and develop greater independence.
According to the organization, the new campus addresses a need for additional services in Sussex County, where 670 adults receive state developmental disability services. The state’s developmental disabilities provider directory lists five sites in the county offering Community Inclusion services.
“When I taught special education, I watched students graduate with nowhere to go, and for a lot of Sussex County families, that’s still the reality,” said Tim Butler, founder and executive director of Green Vision. “No one should have to drive out of the county or settle for whatever’s closest. Lafayette gives families another option close to home.”
The 23,000-square-foot facility sits on a 15-acre property and provides participants with opportunities to dismantle computers, servers, laptops, monitors, printers and phones collected from local businesses, municipalities and residents.
Through the daily activities, participants learn to complete tasks step by step, develop concentration and communication skills, and work alongside others in a consistent, structured environment.
In addition to its day program, Green Vision offers free electronics drop-off services to the public. Residents can bring accepted electronics to the Lafayette campus Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. No appointment is necessary.
Founded in Randolph in 2010, Green Vision has dismantled more than 14 million pounds of electronics, achieving a verified 99% landfill diversion rate, according to the organization. The nonprofit has also served more than 400 participants since its founding.
Green Vision has provided electronics recycling services for organizations including the Sussex County Municipal Utilities Authority. The organization was also named Best Recycling Center by Randolph Township each year from 2014 through 2024.
Adults interested in enrolling, along with family members, support coordinators and school transition staff, can schedule a tour of the Lafayette campus. No referral is required to visit the facility.
