$847 million Powerball jackpot-winning ticket sold at Wegmans in Bergen County
MONTVALE, N.J. (Bergen County) — A Powerball ticket sold at a Wegmans supermarket in Bergen County matched all six numbers in Wednesday night’s drawing, winning an $847 million jackpot that ranks as the ninth largest in Powerball history and the second-largest lottery prize ever won in New Jersey.
The New Jersey Lottery announced Thursday, Nov. 5, that the sole jackpot-winning ticket for the Nov. 4 drawing was purchased at Wegmans Food Market, 100 Farm View, in Montvale. The retailer will receive a $30,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
The winning numbers were 15, 34, 41, 53 and 56, with a Powerball of 21. The Power Play multiplier was 2X.
The winner can choose between an annuitized prize of $847 million, paid in 30 increasing installments over 29 years, or a lump-sum cash payment of $363.1 million. Both amounts are before taxes, and the winner has one year from the drawing date to claim the prize.
“Congratulations to our newest New Jersey winner. A prize of $847 million is the second largest in the history of the New Jersey Lottery, and it was won right here in Montvale. Beyond this life-changing moment for one lucky player, every ticket sold in New Jersey helps support the public employee pension system and the people who serve our state. We encourage the winner to take their time and speak with trusted financial and legal advisors. We also remind all players to play responsibly,” said New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill.
The jackpot marks another major lottery win for New Jersey, which previously sold a $1.13 billion Mega Millions ticket in March 2024. Before Wednesday’s drawing, the state’s largest Powerball jackpot was $429.6 million, won May 7, 2016.
“This historic jackpot represents an exciting and life-changing moment for the winner, and also a reminder of the Lottery’s lasting impact on New Jersey. Since 1970, the Lottery has contributed nearly $35.7 billion to the State, and its profits now help strengthen the public employee pension system under the 30-year agreement signed into law in 2017. We congratulate the winner, and we thank the retailers and players across New Jersey whose participation makes that support possible,” said New Jersey Treasurer Aaron Binder.
New Jersey Lottery officials said the $847 million prize is the seventh Powerball jackpot won in 2026. It also ranks as the ninth-largest jackpot in the game’s history.
“New Jersey sold a $1 billion Mega Millions ticket in 2024, and it’s amazing that we just sold the ninth largest winning ticket in the history of Powerball,” said New Jersey Lottery Commission Chair Ian Leonard.
“This incredible prize marks another great record for New Jersey and proves just how lucky our players can be. We are excited to meet the winner soon,” said New Jersey Lottery Executive Director James Carey.
In addition to the jackpot-winning ticket, another New Jersey Lottery player won $50,000 in Wednesday’s Powerball drawing. That ticket was sold at Vineland Discount Liquors, 1668 S. Delsea Drive, in Vineland, Cumberland County, and matched four of the five white balls and the Powerball.
The separate Double Play drawing, available to players who purchased the additional feature, did not produce a $10 million top-prize winner. The Double Play numbers were 03, 06, 23, 58 and 65, with a Double Play ball of 15.
However, one Double Play ticket matched four white balls and the Double Play ball to win $50,000. That ticket was purchased at Jersey Pride Food Store, 19 Route 516, in Old Bridge, Middlesex County.
Lottery officials are advising the jackpot winner to immediately sign the back of the ticket, make copies and store it in a secure location before claiming the prize. The lottery also recommends consulting trusted financial and legal advisers before making decisions about the winnings.
According to the New Jersey Lottery, the state has received nearly $35.7 billion in lottery contributions since 1970, with current lottery profits supporting the public employee pension system under a 30-year agreement enacted in 2017.
The identity of the $847 million jackpot winner has not been announced.
