At least one lane of traffic will remain open in each direction during the work, NJDOT officials said.

The closures are necessary to complete center median guiderail work as part of an ongoing resurfacing and intersection improvement project that is nearing completion.

Motorists are advised to slow down, use caution and expect delays when traveling through the work zone.

The work is part of the $10 million Route 22, Broad Street to Interstate 78 resurfacing and intersection improvement project, which includes milling and paving approximately five miles of Route 22 eastbound from Miller Street to the I-78 interchange.

The project also includes resurfacing ramps connecting Route 22 and I-78, along with traffic signal upgrades at eight intersections.

Those intersections include:

  • Route 22 and New Brunswick Avenue
  • Route 22 and Greenwich Street
  • Route 22 and St. James Avenue/Uniontown Road/County Route 519
  • Route 22 and Phillipsburg Mall
  • Route 22 and First Street
  • Route 22 and Roseberry Street
  • Route 22 and Ingersoll Avenue/Bates Street
  • Hillcrest Boulevard

NJDOT officials said the precise timing of the work is subject to change depending on weather conditions or other factors.
