Andover Township police mourn death of 911 dispatcher Kim Brown
ANDOVER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Sussex County) — The Andover Township Police Department announced the death of 911 dispatcher Kim Brown, remembering her as a longtime public servant who spent more than two decades in emergency communications.
“It is with deep sadness that the Andover Township Police Department announces the untimely passing of 911 Dispatcher Kim Brown,” the department said in a statement.
Brown began working at the Andover Township Police Department 911 Center in November 2000 as a part-time dispatcher and became a full-time employee in May 2004, police said. Colleagues described her as highly skilled and knowledgeable, including expertise with the NCIC system, and as a steady presence during emergencies.
Police said Brown was “often the calm, steady voice behind the microphone during moments of crisis—providing reassurance to callers, gathering critical information, and ensuring help was dispatched swiftly and accurately when it was needed most.” The department said she also prioritized officer safety, regularly checking on officers’ well-being.
Before joining Andover Township, Brown worked as a dispatcher for the Sussex County Sheriff’s Department, Hardyston Police Department and Sparta Police Department, the department said. She also served as a matron for the Hamburg Police Department and previously volunteered with Sussex Fire Department EMS and its Ladies Auxiliary, police said.
The police department said Brown’s death was “untimely,” but did not release how she died. Funeral arrangements also had not been publicly announced.
“The Andover Township Police Department extends its heartfelt condolences to Kim’s family, friends and loved ones during this difficult time,” the department said.
