Armored truck driver safely released after being trapped in rear of vehicle outside Warren County supermarket
BLAIRSTOWN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Warren County) — An armored truck driver was safely released Monday morning after becoming trapped inside the rear compartment of his vehicle outside the ACME Market on Route 94, according to police.
Blairstown Township police said officers were dispatched at 9:01 a.m. May 18 after receiving reports of an alarm sounding from the armored truck parked in front of the supermarket at 152 Route 94.
When officers arrived, they determined the driver was locked inside the rear of the vehicle and unable to get out. Police said officers communicated with the driver using handwritten notes while working to resolve the situation.
Firefighters and EMS crews also responded because of the hot weather conditions in case the driver required medical attention.
Police said officers contacted Garda, the armored truck company, which was able to remotely unlock the vehicle.
The driver was removed from the truck and evaluated by EMS personnel at the scene.
According to police, the driver had been trapped inside the vehicle for approximately an hour and a half.
Police believe an electronic failure caused the rear compartment to lock, trapping the driver inside.
RNJ reached out to Garda for comment and has not received a response.
