Bear struck on I-80 in Morris County; four people injured

ROXBURY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — Four people were injured Monday night when a van struck a bear on Interstate 80 in Roxbury Township, according to the New Jersey State Police.

Troopers responded to the crash at 8:52 p.m. on I-80 eastbound at milepost 27.2, NJSP Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron said.

A preliminary investigation determined that a Ford van carrying 12 occupants hit a bear on the roadway. Four passengers sustained minor injuries and were transported to an area hospital for treatment, Lebron said.

After the initial collision, two additional passenger vehicles also struck the bear. No other injuries were reported.

The condition of the bear was not released.

The crash remains under investigation, and no additional information was available, according to state police.
