Bridge repairs to begin July 14 on Berkshire Valley Road in Roxbury Township

ROXBURY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — Repair work is set to begin Monday, July 14, on the railroad bridge that carries the Dover & Rockaway River Railroad over Berkshire Valley Road in Roxbury Township, officials said.

The work on Bridge No. 14C4237 will take place weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and is expected to last approximately three weeks, weather permitting.

Temporary traffic signals have been installed to allow alternating, single-lane traffic through the work zone during construction. Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes and expect possible delays.

The single-span bridge is supported by riveted steel-through girders and features open timber tie decking, floor beams, and steel stringers. Repairs will focus on reinforcing the structural steel connections between the floor beams and girders using steel angles.

The $153,401 construction contract was awarded to Sparwick Contracting Inc. of Lafayette and is being fully funded by the county.

The timeline for the project may be adjusted depending on weather or other unforeseen circumstances. For more information, residents may contact the Morris County Division of Engineering and Transportation at 973-285-6750.
