MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A car trailing smoke leads to a DWI arrest in Mount Olive Township.
On Oct. 7, an officer was responding to a call for service when he noticed a Subaru sedan on Pfrommer Avenue, trailing smoke. The officer followed the vehicle, which parked shortly after, police said.
Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer made contact with the driver, who was identified as Bryan Bernier, 36, of Middleton. During the interaction, the officer allegedly detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage and proceeded to conduct standardized field sobriety tests, police said.
Further investigation revealed that Bernier had crashed his vehicle into several fixed objects and failed to report the incident, police said.
Bernier was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, failure to maintain lane, failure to possess a driver’s insurance card, leaving the scene of an accident, and failing to report an accident. He was processed and later released to a sober driver pending a court appearance, police said.
