CCM’s Longo Planetarium launches Artemis-themed immersive show

RANDOLPH TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — The Longo Planetarium at County College of Morris is launching a new immersive show highlighting NASA’s Artemis program, offering visitors a journey to the Moon as part of its spring lineup.

The new show, Forward to the Moon, debuts Friday, April 10, and will run on select Fridays at 9 p.m. and Saturdays at 3:30 p.m. The 30-minute presentation is recommended for audiences ages 9 and older.

Narrated by Kari Byron of “MythBusters” and “Crash Test World,” the show uses advanced visual technology to explore the lunar surface and the science behind NASA’s Artemis era of space exploration. Each presentation also includes a 15-minute live tour of the night sky led by CCM Planetarium Astronomer Kevin Conod.

The program coincides with renewed interest in lunar exploration, following NASA’s Artemis II mission, which sent astronauts to the Moon for the first time in more than 50 years.

In addition to the new feature, the planetarium is offering two other shows through May.

Cosmic Colors, a 45-minute show recommended for ages 8 and up, explores the electromagnetic spectrum and the science of color, including why the sky appears blue and Mars appears red. It will be shown on select Fridays at 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 2 p.m.

Starlit Nights, also recommended for ages 8 and up, will be presented on select Saturdays at 5 p.m. The live program features a guided tour of the evening sky, including star clusters, constellations and nebulae.

Tickets for all shows are $10 per person. Officials recommend purchasing tickets online in advance, as limited tickets may be available at the door.

More information, including show schedules and ticketing, is available on the Longo Planetarium website.
