Centenary Stage Company announces open call auditions for ‘A Christmas Carol’

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) – Centenary Stage Company, a professional not-for-profit theater located on the campus of Centenary University, is holding open auditions for non-union performers for its upcoming production of “A Christmas Carol.” The adaptation features music by Alan Menken and lyrics and book by Lynn Ahrens and Mike Ockrent.

Auditions are scheduled for Friday, Sept. 27, from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and Saturday, Sept. 28, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the Lackland Performing Arts Center, 715 Grand Avenue, Hackettstown, NJ. A dance call will take place on Saturday from 4 PM to 5 PM. While primarily seeking non-union performers, AEA Guest Artist contracts are available.

Interested actors should prepare 16-24 bars of a mid-century musical theatre song (from the 1960s to late 1990s) that showcases a strong theatrical point of view and dynamic music and lyrics, or a traditional Christmas carol. Recommended composers include Alan Menken, Flaherty and Ahrens, Stephen Schwartz, and the Sherman Brothers. Auditionees are encouraged to avoid contemplative ballads and generic love songs, focusing instead on strong acting choices.

Participants auditioning on Saturday should be prepared for the dance portion and may also be asked to read from provided sides, which will be available at the audition and online at centenarystageco.org.

The first rehearsal is set for Oct. 4, with performances running from Nov. 29 to Dec. 15. For further details, visit centenarystageco.org or contact the box office at 908-979-0900.
