Centenary University pollinator garden draws monarch butterflies

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Warren County) — A pollinator garden planted last spring by Centenary University students has quickly become a haven for monarch butterflies, university officials said.

The garden, a collaboration between Centenary’s Evergreen Club and Delta Xi Nu Multicultural Sorority, Inc., features native plants such as milkweed, showy goldenrod, and cardinal flower. The plants were grown from seeds by students to support pollinators, including monarchs and honeybees.

When students returned to campus this fall, they discovered butterfly caterpillars and adult monarchs thriving in the blooms.

Led by students Amanda Lorenzo and Jordan Henderson, the project was designed to improve biodiversity and help rehabilitate struggling pollinator populations.

“The garden is already doing what we hoped—providing a safe, nourishing environment for pollinators,” university officials said.
