Chocolatey Eyeballs sold at Marshalls, TJ Maxx, HomeGoods recalled over undeclared milk, FDA says
NEW JERSEY — Crystal Temptations is recalling several varieties of its Halloween Chocolatey Eyeballs sold at Marshalls, TJ Maxx, HomeGoods and Sierra stores because the products may contain undeclared milk, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk could experience a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the recalled products, the FDA said.
The Crystal Temptations-branded products were distributed in New Jersey and 11 other states, including Arizona, Texas, Virginia, Georgia, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Indiana, Nevada, California, Connecticut, Ohio and Wyoming.
The recall includes five styles of Chocolatey Eyeballs:
- Style 54040-CHEY: 10-ounce plastic bag with a designed header card
- Style 54077-CHEY: 7-ounce acrylic box with a designed paper wrap
- Style 58008-CHEY: 10.5-ounce round plastic jar
- Style 58089-CHEY: 16-ounce designer plastic pouch bag
- Style 54083-CHEY: 11-ounce plastic bag tied with a tag
No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled products, according to the FDA.
The recall was initiated after a TJX analyst discovered that the Chocolatey Eyeballs contained whey, a milk ingredient, but the packaging did not disclose the presence of milk. An investigation determined the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in Crystal Temptations’ production and packaging processes, according to the FDA.
Consumers who purchased the recalled Chocolatey Eyeballs are being urged to destroy them. Refunds are not available at the point of sale.
