Commissioners unveil new public health nursing facility to better assist Hunterdon County residents
FLEMINGTON, NJ (Hunterdon County) – The Board of County Commissioners hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday celebrating the grand opening of the new Public Health Nursing Annex, located at 1 Walter E. Foran Boulevard, in Flemington.
The new space offers expanded areas for clinical care and public health programming in a central location to better serve County residents.
In attendance for the grand opening were Assemblyman Erik Peterson, County Clerk Mary Melfi, Prosecutor Renee Robeson, Undersheriff Robert Smith, Undersheriff Frank Codero, Chief Warrant Officer Ed Davis, and Raritan Township Mayor, Scott Sipos.
“The Hunterdon County Public Health Nursing Division is dedicated to advancing the health of our community and ensuring access to healthcare for all. I would like to thank everyone who is involved in bringing this project to fruition including our Health Department, Division of Building and Maintenance, County Architect, and County leadership team. I would also like to thank our state and federal partners for the grant dollars that combined with county funding made this project a reality,” Commissioner Director Kuhl said.
The Hunterdon County Public Health Nursing Division provides education and clinical health services to all residents in the county. Programming is centered on disease prevention and health promotion, and the facility provides a full array of services, including Senior Brunch and Learn programs, biometric screening, vision screening, among other programs. Public Health Nursing staff also work to investigate communicable disease cases and outbreaks affecting individual residents or within facilities in the county.
Additionally, PHN programs improve the health of residents through partnerships with other community agencies and health care providers.
Commissioner Shaun C. Van Doren, who also serves as the liaison to the Health Department said, “This new Public Health annex represents another step forward in our effort to expand healthcare access for residents and will help do so much more for our community, especially for our seniors, veterans, and those uninsured and underinsured.”
“The new Public Health Nursing facility increases access to programs and allows the Department to expand services to improve the health of Hunterdon County community members. The Health Department thanks the County Commissioners and Administration for their continued support to strengthen public health programming in Hunterdon County,” Health Department Director, Karen DeMarco said.
The new Public Health Nursing office will also be used by staff from the Division of Seniors, Disabilities, and Veterans Services for new collaborative programming and expanded offerings to Hunterdon’s seniors.
Some of the services currently provided by PHN include, blood pressure monitoring programs, childhood vaccine program, lead poisoning prevention, pregnancy & prenatal care, and many more.
