Egg-cident scrambles Route 46, I-80 ramp in Morris County

MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — Fire crews responded early Tuesday to an unusual pair of incidents involving spilled eggs that left roadways messy but ultimately safe in Mount Olive Township, according to the Budd Lake Fire Department.

At about 12 a.m., crews were dispatched to Route 46 and Mount Olive Road for debris cleanup. Upon arrival, responders found a pallet of eggs that had fallen from a truck and broken across the roadway.

Around the same time, a second incident was reported on the ramp from Interstate 80 eastbound to Route 46, where another pallet of eggs had spilled.

Firefighters worked to clear both scenes, and the roadways were reopened shortly afterward.

In a lighthearted statement, the department described the situation as an “egg-xact problem,” noting the eggs had “scrambled itself across the roadway” and joking that someone may be “a couple pallets short” at their next delivery.

“No injuries, just a whole lot of omelette potential,” the department said.
