Congressman Kean secures $850K for Mine Hill water main replacement project
MINE HILL TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — U.S. Rep. Tom Kean Jr. has secured $850,000 in a House appropriations bill for a water main replacement project in Mine Hill Township, according to his office.
Kean visited Mine Hill last week to view the site of the project, which calls for replacing 5,307 linear feet of transite water main. The funding was secured through the Community Project Funding process.
“These pipes have been in the ground for over 40 years, contain asbestos, and are starting to fail,” said Congressman Kean. “I am pleased to secure this federal funding to ensure that Mine Hill families have reliable access to high-quality water for decades to come.”
Mine Hill Mayor Sam Morris thanked Kean for supporting the project.
“I can’t thank Congressman Kean enough for his care and concern about the people of Mine Hill and the people of the Seventh District,” said Mayor Sam Morris. “His hard work and relentless efforts to secure significant funding for our water safety project is appreciated more than we can express. I want to thank him for caring about us, and I want to thank him for fighting for us.”
Mine Hill resident Cristina Capsouras also spoke about the project during Kean’s visit.
“Thank you to the Congressman for securing this funding, and especially for taking the time to come to Mine Hill and seeing firsthand where it will be used,” said Mine Hill resident Cristina Capsouras. “Explaining why this funding is needed is only half the battle, it’s amazing that he came here in person to see the need for himself. Replacing the water main will provide much needed peace of mind for all of us here in Mine Hill.”
In July, Kean announced that 18 Community Project Funding requests submitted by his office, totaling $17.77 million, were included in House funding bills for the upcoming fiscal year.
According to Kean’s office, he has secured more than $3 million for water main and pipe replacement projects since taking office.
