County College of Morris launches new emergency services degree to meet growing public safety demand

RANDOLPH TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — Responding to a growing need for skilled professionals in public safety and healthcare, the County College of Morris (CCM) is introducing a new Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Emergency Services program designed to prepare students for essential roles in emergency response, disaster management and community protection.

The new degree, which expands CCM’s academic offerings in public safety, will train students for careers in both the public and private sectors, including positions with fire departments, emergency management agencies, insurance companies, and fire equipment manufacturers.

Courses will cover topics such as emergency management, disaster preparedness, forensic science, fire investigation, public safety leadership, terrorism preparedness and response, and communications. Students who already hold professional credentials — such as those earned through the Morris County Public Safety Training Academy — may receive credit toward the degree on a case-by-case basis.

“Associate degrees are a popular and effective pathway for students to enter high-demand careers quickly and affordably,” said Dr. Anthony Iacono, president of CCM. “Our new Emergency Services program is a prime example, preparing students to enter the workforce in critical roles that will help with the safety infrastructure of Morris County and the region.”

The program builds on CCM’s continuing commitment to education in public safety and community well-being. It joins other programs in the Criminal Justice Department, including Justice Studies and a related certificate in Legal Studies for students interested in careers as legal assistants.

Enrollment for the Spring 2026 semester opens Monday, Nov. 3.
