County College of Morris to host free cybersecurity night Oct. 16

RANDOLPH TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — In an era of rapidly evolving online threats, the County College of Morris (CCM) is inviting students, professionals and community members to a Cybersecurity Night on Thursday, October 16, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., in the Cohen Café, Cohen Hall.

Organized by CCM’s Department of Information Technologies, the event aims to help attendees stay safe online and gain essential cyber defense knowledge. It is being held in conjunction with the “Secure Our World” national campaign from the U.S. Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA).

“Whether you’re a student exploring career options, a professional looking to sharpen your skills, or a concerned community member who wants to stay safe online, this is your opportunity to get cyber smart,” the college said in a statement.

The evening will feature insider knowledge, expert advice, and real-world strategies to protect personal and professional data — including how to recognize phishing attempts, strengthen passwords, enable multi-factor authentication, and keep software updated.

A special presentation by the New Jersey Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Cell (NJCCIC), titled “The Ever-Changing Cybersecurity Landscape,” will offer a behind-the-scenes look at current and emerging cyber threats. Attendees can also participate in panel discussions and breakout sessions with industry experts.

Throughout the event, CCM will highlight its degree and certificate programs in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Security, and Information Technology. CCM is the first community college in New Jersey designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Two-Year Education (CAE2Y) by the National Security Agency and Department of Homeland Security.

“Whether you’re a student, a parent, a business owner or simply someone who uses a smartphone or computer, Cybersecurity Night at CCM will give you the tools you need to protect yourself and your family online,” the college said. “In a world where digital threats are growing smarter and more sophisticated by the day, knowing how to protect yourself isn’t just smart, it’s essential.”

The event is free and open to the public, with refreshments provided. Pre-registration is encouraged at ccm.edu/events/cyber-security-night.
