Custom orthotics from St. Luke’s help local business owner overcome chronic foot pain
For Tony Pagliaroli, owner of Scott Powersports in Coopersburg, life has always been about staying active — from racing motorcycles and hiking to walking his dogs. But two years ago, long hours spent standing on his shop’s unforgiving concrete floors brought his active lifestyle to a painful halt.
Persistent foot pain became part of his daily routine. Pagliaroli tried everything from massages and stretching to rest, icing, and expensive athletic shoes, but nothing brought lasting relief.
After visiting St. Luke’s Podiatry, he learned he was suffering from chronic tendonitis and was referred to Elizabeth “Liz” Scifers, DPT, a Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopedic & Sports Physical Therapy and the program manager for foot and ankle care at Physical Therapy at St. Luke’s.
“I carefully analyzed Tony’s foot mechanics and designed a custom orthotic with a lateral post—built up on the outside—to correct his foot position,” said Scifers. “A simple yet precise solution, tailored to his unique needs.”
The results, Pagliaroli said, were immediate and life-changing.
“The orthotics Liz hooked me up with have been life-changing,” he said. “I work on concrete all day, at least 60 hours per week, and she, along with Dr. Eric Bronfenbrenner, completely resolved my issues. I can’t say enough good things about either of them.”
To ensure consistent relief, Pagliaroli keeps his work shoes — fitted with his custom orthotics — at the shop so he’s never without them.
“The pain was so bad, I thought I would have to sell the business,” he said. “Now, with the orthotics, I have no pain. Liz knocked it out of the park.”
For Pagliaroli, the recovery meant more than just eliminating discomfort — it restored his quality of life. Thanks to the expertise of his care team at St. Luke’s, he can once again focus on his business and the activities he loves without pain holding him back.
