Hunterdon County hosts fifth Crisis Intervention Team training

FLEMINGTON, NJ (Hunterdon County) – Hunterdon County Prosecutor Renée M. Robeson and Hunterdon County Sheriff Frederick W. Brown recently welcomed over 30 law enforcement officers and mental health professionals who graduated from Hunterdon County’s fifth Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Training.

This intensive five-day training program provided officers and clinicians with an in-depth understanding of issues such as mental illness, behavioral health, and developmental disabilities, with a focus on their implications for police response during a crisis.

The training, based on an international model, was a collaboration between the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office, the Hunterdon County Sheriff’s Office, and several community partners, including Hunterdon Health – Hunterdon Behavioral Health, Prevention Resources, and other local organizations.

New Jersey’s CIT program is a county-based collaboration aimed at improving the law enforcement system’s response to individuals in psychiatric crises who encounter law enforcement first responders.

“Congratulations to all the CIT graduates from last week. They are bringing vital skills back to their communities to serve residents at the highest level in times of crisis,” said the prosecutor’s office.
