Gov.-elect Sherrill nominates Rosalie Johnson to lead New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission
TRENTON, N.J. — Gov.-elect Mikie Sherrill announced Monday that she will nominate Rosalie Johnson to serve as chief administrator of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission, citing Johnson’s extensive experience modernizing motor vehicle agencies and improving customer service.
Johnson brings more than 20 years of organizational leadership experience to the role. She most recently worked with the Institute for Responsive Government, where she provided guidance and operational support to state motor vehicle agencies nationwide.
“I promised a different kind of leadership in Trenton, focused on results, and I am so excited to welcome Rosalie Johnson to the Garden State to help save New Jerseyans time and money at the MVC,” said Gov.-elect Mikie Sherrill. “Right now, it’s just too hard for New Jerseyans to get what they need from the Motor Vehicle Commission, whether that’s a REAL ID appointment, a vehicle inspection, or a business license for an auto body shop. Rosalie brings a wide breath of experience in streamlining motor vehicle agency operations, improving roadway safety, and ID distribution that will help ensure New Jerseyans can get what they need from the MVC while keeping our roadways safe.”
Johnson previously served as senior deputy director of the Colorado Department of Motor Vehicles, where she helped the state achieve a 97% REAL ID compliance rate, reduced average customer wait times from 45 minutes to 15 minutes, and launched a secure mobile driver’s license initiative. She also oversaw the implementation of Colorado’s automatic voter registration system and coordinated with the Department of Corrections to issue identification cards to returning individuals.
“I am honored to join Gov.-elect Sherrill and her administration to lead the New Jersey’s Motor Vehicle Commission,” said Rosalie Johnson. “I look forward to working together to take a different approach to making services like REAL ID more easily accessible for residents, reducing wait times, and improving road safety. Over the next few months, we will work to empower MVC employees and ensure that the MVC is delivering on the issues that impact working families the most.”
