DENVILLE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — The Denville Volunteer Fire Department celebrated its 100th anniversary Saturday night, marking a century of volunteer service to the community.
Morris County Commissioners Tayfun Selen and Deb Smith joined members of the department for its 100th anniversary dinner and presented a resolution of honor on behalf of the Morris County Board of County Commissioners.
The department was founded in 1926 by a group of Denville residents who recognized the need for local fire protection.
The department’s first members raised money in the community to purchase its first fire engine, known as “Old Betsy.” They also built the department’s first firehouse using donated materials and volunteer labor.
A century later, the department continues its tradition of volunteer service, with generations of firefighters answering calls and serving the Denville community.
Fire Chief Jason Lezcano and members of the Denville Volunteer Fire Department were recognized during Saturday’s celebration for the department’s 100 years of service.
