Pedestrian injured after being struck by van in Hunterdon County
RARITAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — A pedestrian was injured Tuesday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Old York Road and Voorhees Corner Road in Raritan Township, authorities said.
Police were dispatched to the scene at about 4:13 p.m. following a report of a pedestrian struck by a car. The reporting party described the victim as a middle-aged man, officials said.
Police were joined at the scene by the Flemington-Raritan Rescue Squad, Hunterdon Medical Center paramedics, the Raritan Township Fire Department and the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office.
Emergency responders found a 40-year-old man from West Windsor who had been struck by a Ram ProMaster van traveling southbound on Old York Road, police said. Initial reports indicate the pedestrian was in the roadway assisting with traffic as vehicles exited a residential driveway.
The man suffered a head injury and was treated at the scene before the New Jersey State Police NorthStar helicopter was requested, officials said. He was transported by helicopter to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital’s trauma center and was conscious at the time of transport.
The Raritan Township Police Department and the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating the cause of the crash.
