Traffic shift scheduled on Route 53 in Denville for monthlong construction work

DENVILLE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) announced that a traffic shift will begin Thursday night, Nov. 6, on Route 53 in Denville, as part of a federally funded pavement preservation and improvement project.

Beginning at 8 p.m. Thursday through 6 a.m. Friday, Nov. 7, Route 53 will have lane closures with alternating traffic between Estling Lane/Luger Road and Front Street to allow crews to set up the new traffic pattern.

By Friday morning, traffic in both directions will be shifted to create a work zone on the southbound shoulder for drainage, curb, sidewalk, and pavement reconstruction. NJDOT officials said the new traffic pattern is expected to remain in place for about one month.

The $5.3 million federally funded project will resurface and upgrade approximately 2.5 miles of Route 53, stretching from Pondview Road in Parsippany to Hall Avenue in Denville. Work is expected to continue through summer 2026.
