Detached garage fire in Hunterdon County quickly contained, deemed not suspicious

READINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — A detached garage was destroyed in a fire Wednesday morning in Readington Township, authorities said.

According to police, officers responded to a residence on Old Highway 28 at about 7:51 a.m. for a report of a structure fire. Arriving patrol units found the garage fully engulfed in flames.

Local fire departments responded and quickly contained and brought the fire under control. Agencies assisting included the Whitehouse Fire Company, Readington Fire Company, Three Bridges Fire Company, Readington Office of Emergency Management, Whitehouse Rescue Squad, Hunterdon County Department of Public Safety, Lebanon Fire Company, Oldwick Fire Company, Annandale Fire Company, Quakertown Fire Company and the North Branch Fire Company.

The fire is under investigation by the Readington Township Police Department’s Detective Bureau and the Raritan Township Fire Marshal. Authorities said it has been deemed not suspicious.
