Dover warns of impostors posing as water department workers

DOVER, N.J. (Morris County) — Town officials are warning residents to be on alert after reports of individuals falsely claiming to work for the Dover Water Department in an attempt to gain entry to homes.

Mayor James P. Dodd issued a public safety notice Wednesday saying the individuals are not employed by the town and urged residents not to allow anyone inside without proper identification and confirmation from the municipality.

“If you encounter these individuals, do not open your door and immediately call 911 to report the incident,” Dodd said in the statement.

The mayor emphasized that community safety is a top priority and asked residents to remain vigilant, sharing the warning with family, friends, and neighbors.

The notice follows incidents in which people were seen knocking on doors and attempting to enter homes under false pretenses.
