Driver charged with DWI, accused of impersonating law enforcement officer in Morris County
HANOVER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A 53-year-old woman was arrested March 16 after allegedly driving under the influence, ignoring police attempts to stop her and falsely claiming to be a law enforcement officer in Hanover Township, authorities said.
Police said the incident began as officers observed a vehicle traveling east on Route 10 and driving erratically while committing multiple traffic violations. Attempts to initiate a traffic stop near South Jefferson Road were unsuccessful as the driver continued moving despite emergency lights and sirens.
The vehicle eventually stopped at a red light at Troy Hills Road, where officers blocked it to prevent it from continuing, authorities said.
The driver, identified as Pamela Currie of Franklin Park, was the sole occupant of the vehicle. Officers reported observing multiple signs of intoxication while speaking with her.
During the encounter, she repeatedly told officers she was a “cop” and later claimed to be a corrections officer, according to police.
Currie exited the vehicle and underwent standardized field sobriety tests before being taken into custody on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
At police headquarters, she agreed to provide breath samples but did not provide adequate samples and was charged with refusal, authorities said.
She was charged with driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit to breath testing, possession of an open container of alcohol, impersonating a law enforcement officer and multiple traffic violations. She was later released to a responsible driver pending a court appearance.
