Driver injured after jeep crashes down embankment in Warren County

KNOWLTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) — A driver was injured after the jeep they were operating crashed down an embankment in Knowlton Township on Monday.

On Feb. 10, at 4:57 p.m., Knowlton Township Fire and Rescue was dispatched to a motor vehicle crash with injuries on Stark Road, approximately half a mile off Route 94. The crash involved a vehicle that had gone down an embankment onto the old railroad bed, with reports indicating possibly two people injured.

Upon arrival, responders found a Jeep Wrangler upright on the railroad bed below the overpass. Crews worked to treat the driver and used a stokes basket to carry the patient up a snow- and ice-covered path to the waiting ambulance. Portland assisted with a low-angle rescue line to ensure the safety of the rescuers during the incline.

Portland Hook & Ladder (Northampton Co. Station 33) and Blairstown Ambulance Corps were also called for additional assistance, while St. Claires Paramedics responded and assessed the patient. The injuries were determined to be not severe, and the patient was transported to St. Luke’s for further care.

The passenger did not require medical treatment.

Stark Road was closed for several hours as a tow operator worked to winch the vehicle up the steep embankment.

The cause of the crash was not immediatly clear.
