Driver seriously injured after being struck while standing in roadway following crash on I-80 in Morris County

PARSIPPANY-TROY HILLS, NJ (Morris County) – A driver who exited his vehicle after a collision was seriously injured when he was struck by a dump truck along Interstate 80 in Morris County Friday afternoon, according to New Jersey State Police spokesperson Sergeant Jeffrey Lebron.

The crash occurred around 4:20 p.m. on the eastbound side of I-80 at milepost 43 in Parsippany-Troy Hills, Lebron said.

According to a preliminary investigation, a Hyundai Elantra and a Honda Civic were traveling east on I-80 when they collided near milepost 43, causing both vehicles to become disabled in the right lane. The driver of the Honda, Shumsher Dhillon, 23, of Iselin, exited his vehicle and remained in the roadway, Lebron said.

A Peterbilt dump truck, also traveling east on I-80, then struck both the Honda and Dhillon, Lebron said.

As a result of the crash, Dhillon sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. The driver of the Hyundai sustained moderate injuries and was also taken to the hospital, Lebron said.

No other injuries were reported, Lebron added.

The crash remains under investigation, and no further information was available, Lebron said.
