Driver struck, killed by NJ Transit train in Morris County
LINCOLN PARK BOROUGH, NJ (Morris County) – A driver was killed after being struck by a NJ Transit train in Lincoln Park Borough on Monday morning, according to NJ Transit officials said.
At approximately 9:27 a.m., Montclair-Boonton Line train 1074, which departed Hackettstown at 8:24 a.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Hoboken at 10:30 a.m., struck a vehicle at the Ryerson Road crossing, officials said.
The adult male driver of the motor vehicle was pronounced dead on scene, officials said.
“While this remains an active investigation, preliminary reports indicate that the crossing gates were working as intended and were in the down position when the driver drove the vehicle around the gates and positioned the vehicle into the path of the train,” officials said.
There were no injuries reported to the approximately 40 customers or crew on board. Customers on board the train were accommodated by a bus, authorities said.
New Jersey Transit Police are leading the investigation.
