Dunn raises alarm over reported workforce cuts at Picatinny Arsenal
MORRIS COUNTY, N.J. — Assemblywoman Aura Dunn expressed concern over reported workforce reductions at Picatinny Arsenal, warning of potential economic and community impacts across Morris County and the surrounding region.
Dunn, who represents New Jersey’s 25th Legislative District, said the reported cuts could affect thousands of highly skilled workers and their families who depend on the installation for employment.
“Picatinny is not just a military installation — it is a cornerstone of our local economy and a critical driver of innovation and national defense,” Dunn said in a statement.
The arsenal, a key U.S. Army research and development facility, plays a major role in advancing military technology and supporting national defense operations. Dunn emphasized that any disruption to its workforce could have far-reaching consequences beyond the base.
“I have long fought to protect and strengthen Picatinny because of the thousands of high-skilled jobs it supports and the vital role it plays in developing the tools our military depends on,” she said.
Dunn said her office is actively working to support affected workers and families, offering assistance with job placement resources and information about available options.
“My office is ready to assist any worker or family impacted by these changes, and I am here to help in any way I can,” she said. “We will ensure affected employees have access to resources, job placement support, and clear information.”
The assemblywoman also said she is coordinating with local, state and federal officials to address the situation and advocate for the installation’s future.
Dunn confirmed she is in communication with military leadership, including the installation’s major general and garrison commander, and is gathering information from impacted families to better understand the situation.
She pledged to continue pushing for the protection of Picatinny’s mission and workforce, calling it essential to maintaining New Jersey’s leadership in defense innovation.
“I will continue advocating at every level to protect Picatinny’s mission, its workforce, and its future,” Dunn said.
Dunn said she will provide updates as more information emerges.
