Kean announces essay contest for students to mark America’s 250th anniversary
NEW JERSEY — Congressman Tom Kean Jr. has announced an essay contest for students in New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District to help celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary.
The contest is open to students in grades 3 through 6 and invites participants to explore the role their hometown has played in shaping American history.
Students are asked to respond to the prompt, “America’s Story Begins at Home,” highlighting a local person, place or event that contributed to the nation’s development.
“New Jersey has a uniquely rich history and important stories to tell of our nation’s founding,” said Congressman Kean. “There are many historical figures, important places, and significant events that students can study and highlight in their essays. I am excited to host this new contest for elementary and intermediate school-aged students, and I look forward to reading their submissions.”
Essay length requirements vary by grade level, with students in grades 3 and 4 limited to 150 words and those in grades 5 and 6 allowed up to 300 words.
Winning essays will be displayed in Kean’s New Jersey and Washington, D.C., offices and published on his official website.
The submission deadline is May 8 at 5 p.m. Officials said additional details and submission guidelines are available on the congressman’s website.
