Truck driver killed in fiery I-80 crash in Warren County

KNOWLTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Warren County) — A truck driver was killed and a passenger was injured Wednesday morning when a tractor-trailer struck the rear of another tractor-trailer parked along Interstate 80 in Knowlton Township, according to New Jersey State Police.

Troopers responded to the crash at 6:55 a.m. on Interstate 80 East at milepost 8 in Knowlton Township, State Police spokesman Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron said.

A preliminary investigation found that an International tractor-trailer was parked on the right shoulder of the highway when a Kenworth tractor-trailer traveling eastbound struck the rear of the vehicle.

State police identified the driver of the Kenworth as Karwinder Singh, 25, of South Ozone Park, New York. A passenger, Mandeep Singh, 24, also of South Ozone Park, was in the vehicle.

According to police, the impact caused the Kenworth tractor-trailer to become fully engulfed in flames.

Karwinder Singh sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead, police said.

Mandeep Singh suffered minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.

The crash remains under investigation. No additional information was immediately available.
