Erosion control project to begin June 23 on Flanders-Netcong Road in Mount Olive
MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — Morris County will begin an erosion control project on Flanders-Netcong Road later this month to stabilize a deteriorating embankment along the eastern side of the roadway.
The project, scheduled to begin on or about Monday, June 23, will involve the installation of a gabion mattress slope protection system, new soil, guiderails, vegetation plantings, and drainage improvements. The work is expected to take approximately 25 working days, depending on weather conditions.
Initial work will include site clearing and drainage pipe installation. During this phase, the northbound lane of Flanders-Netcong Road — between Route 206 and Flanders-Drakestown Road — will be closed during working hours and reopened at the end of each workday. Southbound traffic will remain open at all times.
Beginning on or about Monday, July 14, the installation of the gabion system and related work will commence. At that point, the northbound lane will be permanently closed for the remainder of the project. A detour will direct northbound drivers to use Drakesdale Road to access Route 206. Southbound traffic will not be affected.
Motorists are advised to follow posted detour signs and allow extra travel time when commuting through the area.
