Exterior fire causes minor damage to Warren County home

WASHINGTON BOROUGH, N.J. (Warren County) — A fire that began near a home’s trash cans caused minor exterior damage Monday night, authorities said.

Washington Township police responded at approximately 8:55 p.m. Feb. 9 to a residence in the 100 block of North Lincoln Avenue in Washington Borough for a report of a structure fire.

A preliminary investigation determined the fire started outside the home in the area of the trash cans. Authorities said a piece of cardboard caught fire, resulting in minimal damage to the exterior of the residence.

All residents evacuated the home before officers arrived. The Washington Emergency Squad evaluated a newborn at the scene as a precaution for possible smoke inhalation. Neither the infant nor any other residents were transported to a hospital, officials said.

The scene was turned over to the Washington Borough Fire Department upon its arrival. After the fire was extinguished, the residence was released to the Warren County Fire Marshal’s Office for further investigation. No suspicious findings were reported.

Residents were not displaced and were able to safely return to their home.
