ShopRite launches annual Cheerios Contest to raise funds for hunger relief
NEW JERSEY – ShopRite Partners In Caring is teaming up with General Mills for its annual Cheerios Contest, bringing ShopRite associates and customers together to raise money for local food banks and hunger-relief organizations.
The fundraising competition runs through Saturday, Oct. 3, with ShopRite stores competing to raise money for local organizations that provide food assistance.
This year’s theme, “Mission: End Hunger,” highlights the efforts of family-owned ShopRite stores, associates, customers, suppliers and community partners to help provide families with access to nutritious food.
Stores that raise the most money will have their associates’ photos featured on a limited-edition Cheerios cereal box in March in recognition of their efforts to fight food insecurity in their communities.
ShopRite Partners In Caring, which launched in 1999, has raised nearly $65 million to support more than 2,500 local charities over the past 25 years.
“What makes the Cheerios Contest so special is that it turns a friendly competition among stores into an opportunity to make a lasting impact, bringing together our retail teams, community partners and local leaders to rally around the fight against hunger,” said Alexandra Emery, Manager of Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility for ShopRite. “Our teams embrace the challenge each year with plenty of enthusiasm and team spirit, knowing that their participation helps raise funds for hunger-relief organizations that provide meals and resources to neighbors who need them most.”
Customers can support the campaign by donating to ShopRite Partners In Caring at checkout or participating in fundraising activities at their local stores.
Many participating ShopRite locations will also hold Help Bag Hunger events during September, which is recognized as Hunger Action Month. The events invite local elected officials, community leaders and first responders to help bag groceries, interact with shoppers and raise awareness about food insecurity.
Money raised through checkout donations, in-store events, Help Bag Hunger activities and associate-led initiatives during the contest will support ShopRite Partners In Caring’s efforts to fight hunger and assist local hunger-relief organizations.
