Fire destroys barn, spreads to detached garage in Hunterdon County

DELAWARE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Firefighters from Delaware Township and neighboring communities responded Thursday morning to a barn fire that spread to a detached garage, authorities said.

According to the Delaware Township Fire Company, crews arrived to find one barn fully engulfed in flames and fire extending into the eaves of a nearby two-story detached garage.

Firefighters were able to bring the main body of the fire under control in less than 20 minutes, officials said, while overhaul operations at the original barn continued for nearly two hours.

Mutual aid departments assisted at the scene by supplying additional manpower, transporting water to the fireground and covering local fire stations during the incident.

The Delaware Township Fire Company said 20 of its volunteers responded to the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the New Jersey Division of Fire Safety.
