Fire extinguished after garage collapse in Morris County

CHESTER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A large detached garage collapsed after becoming fully engulfed in flames early Tuesday morning in Chester Township, according to local authorities.

Chester Fire and mutual aid crews responded around 7:30 a.m. after the Morris County Communications Center received multiple 9-1-1 calls reporting a structure fire on Lewis Lane. Upon arrival, officers from the Chester Police Department found the garage fully involved in fire and already collapsed.

Firefighters from Chester Fire, along with assistance from neighboring departments, were able to safely extinguish the blaze. Tankers from Fairmount Fire Company No. 1 and Ralston Engine Company No. 1, an engine and manpower from Randolph Township Fire Department’s 4th Battalion Ironia, and a fill site provided by Brookside Engine Company 1 supported the effort.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known, and it was unclear if there were any injuries.
