Firefighters battle 2-alarm hotel blaze in Morris County

MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — Firefighters responded to a two-alarm fire Monday at the Residence Inn by Marriott, 271 Continental Drive, where heavy smoke and flames were reported on the third floor of the four-story hotel.

The incident was initially dispatched as a reported fire, but was quickly upgraded to a second alarm, after reports of multiple alarms and sprinkler activations.

Upon arrival, crews saw heavy smoke coming from a section of the third floor. Firefighters from Budd Lake and Netcong made an aggressive interior attack and extinguished the fire inside one of the hotel rooms.

Mount Olive Police and several mutual aid fire departments assisted with evacuations, searches, and shutting down utilities to the hotel. After several hours of ventilation and overhaul, the building was turned back over to hotel management.

Multiple fire and EMS agencies from the surrounding area responded and assisted on scene.
