Firefighters contain attic fire at Sussex County home

STILLWATER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Sussex County) — Firefighters from several Sussex County departments responded Sunday at about 2:20 p.m. to a reported house fire in Stillwater Township, officials said.

Fire crews from Stillwater, Hampton, Fredon, Andover, Byram and Newton were dispatched after reports of a fire at a residence. Upon arrival, chiefs reported heavy smoke coming from the eaves and attic area of the home.

Firefighters established a water supply and advanced hose lines into the second floor of the structure to attack the fire. Officials said the blaze was contained to the attic space, allowing crews to bring the fire under control and complete overhaul operations within about two and a half hours.

Officials said roughly fifteen hundred gallons of water were used during firefighting efforts.

No injuries were reported.

Authorities asked residents to keep the affected family in their thoughts as they begin the process of recovering from the damage caused by the fire.
