Five Atlantic Health hospitals earn top patient safety grades from Leapfrog Group

NEW JERSEY — Five Atlantic Health System hospitals received “A” grades for patient safety from The Leapfrog Group in its Spring 2026 Hospital Safety Grades report.

Atlantic Health said Morristown Medical Center, Overlook Medical Center, Chilton Medical Center, Newton Medical Center and, for the first time, Hackettstown Medical Center earned the top safety rating in the biannual national evaluation.

The grades measure hospital performance across a range of patient safety metrics, including preventable medical errors, infections and injuries.

According to Atlantic Health, Morristown Medical Center has maintained an “A” grade since Fall 2015, while Overlook Medical Center has received consistent “A” grades since Spring 2021.

Atlantic Health said Hackettstown Medical Center earned its first “A” grade following what the health system described as sustained efforts to improve patient safety performance.

CentraState Medical Center, also part of Atlantic Health, received a “B” grade in the latest report.

“Being recognized once again for top performance in patient safety underscores our systemwide commitment to delivering the highest quality care in the safest possible environment,” said Saad Ehtisham, President & CEO, Atlantic Health.

“An ‘A’ Grade is a strong sign that Atlantic Health is deeply committed to protecting patients from harm,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We commend the leadership, Board, clinicians, staff and volunteers for the role each played in earning this distinction.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is a national ratings program focused on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries. The grades are updated twice each year in the spring and fall.
