Florham Park police warn of rise in burglaries, urge residents to secure vehicles

FLORHAM PARK BOROUGH, N.J. (Morris County) — Police in Florham Park are warning residents about a seasonal uptick in burglaries and thefts, saying the community has recently seen more break-ins aimed at stealing car keys, thefts of parked vehicles, and burglaries involving unattended cars.

According to police, the department responded this week to a series of car burglaries at a local business parking lot. Officers said a patron noticed what appeared to be a vehicle “casing” the lot and called police. Officers arrived quickly “from all angles,” but the suspects fled the area.

Police said the same vehicle was later seen committing additional burglaries in multiple towns across Morris, Union, and Essex counties. The vehicle, which had been reported stolen, was eventually recovered elsewhere.

Authorities urged residents to take basic precautions, especially during the busy holiday shopping season. “If you feel you need to leave your vehicle running and have a key fob, take it out and lock the car or just do not leave it unattended!” police said. They also advised residents not to leave valuables such as purses or wallets in plain view.

“Criminals tend to go where there are plenty of victims to choose from, let’s make sure they don’t come here!” police said.
