ANDOVER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Sussex County) — Four Australian cattle dogs believed to have been abandoned at a park in Andover Township have been rescued, and authorities are asking for the public’s help identifying their owner.
According to Buddha Dog Rescue & Recovery, the organization was contacted Saturday by New Jersey Fish and Wildlife after four dogs were believed to have been abandoned near Goodale Road in Andover Township.
Before rescuers arrived, local residents Cathy, Doreen and Nicole safely secured two puppies and one adult dog. A second adult dog, a frightened female described as extremely wary of people, remained at large.
Buddha Dog Rescue & Recovery said volunteer Bonnie Waslewski joined the search, and the pair later successfully captured the dog using a humane trap. The female was then reunited with the other three dogs at the Hopatcong Animal Shelter.
The rescue organization said all four dogs appeared to be in poor condition, showing signs of severe neglect and vomiting worms when they were brought to the shelter. The dogs are now receiving veterinary care while the appropriate authorities investigate the case.
The Hopatcong Animal Shelter said the dogs are four Australian cattle dogs that were found at a local park on Goodale Road in Andover Township.
Buddha Dog Rescue & Recovery thanked New Jersey Fish and Wildlife, the residents who helped secure the dogs and the Hopatcong Animal Shelter for assisting with the rescue and providing immediate care for the animals.
