Four-way stop to be installed at Parker and Old Farmers roads in Washington Township
WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — Motorists traveling through the intersection of Parker Road and Old Farmers Road will soon encounter a new traffic pattern as the intersection is converted into a four-way stop, township police announced.
The change is scheduled to take effect on or about Oct. 27 and follows recent traffic safety studies conducted by the township. Officials said the new configuration is aimed at reducing collisions and improving overall safety in the area.
According to the Washington Township Police Department, the update will include new stop signs on all four sides of the intersection, “All-Way Stop Ahead” warning signs on each approach, and digital message boards on Parker Road in both directions to alert drivers to the change.
Fresh pavement markings and “STOP AHEAD” roadway messages will also be added where needed. Police officers will maintain a visible presence in the area during the initial adjustment period to ensure a smooth and safe transition for drivers.
“Please remember to slow down, stop completely, and follow standard right-of-way rules at the intersection — first to arrive goes first, or yield to the right,” police said in a statement.
Town officials said the change is designed to make the area safer for all roadway users and thanked residents and motorists for their patience and cooperation as drivers adjust to the new traffic pattern.
