Franklin Borough Police Department seeks public comments ahead of accreditation assessment

FRANKLIN BOROUGH, N.J. (Sussex County) — The Franklin Borough Police Department is inviting members of the public and department employees to provide comments as the agency prepares for an on-site assessment as part of its efforts to achieve accreditation.

The assessment will be conducted through the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police (NJSACOP) accreditation program, which evaluates whether law enforcement agencies meet recognized professional standards and best practices.

According to the department, the accreditation process requires agencies to demonstrate compliance with standards in five areas: administration, personnel, operations, investigations and arrestee and detainee procedures.

“Our officers work every day to earn the trust of the people we serve, and accreditation holds that work to a clear, independent standard,” said Chief Gregory M. Cugliari. “We are proud to open our department to this review, and we sincerely value the perspective of every resident who takes the time to participate.”

As part of the assessment, members of the public and department employees may provide comments by telephone on Monday, Nov. 9, from 10 to 11 a.m.

Those wishing to participate can call 973-827-7700, extension 3103, during the designated time. Comments will be taken by the assessment team and are limited to five minutes per caller.

The department said telephone comments must address the agency’s ability to comply with NJSACOP accreditation standards.

Comments may also be submitted by email to police@franklinpd.org. Written comments regarding the department’s ability to meet accreditation standards may be emailed to Harry J. Delgado, accreditation program director, at hdelgado@njsacop.org.

Comments may also be mailed to the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police, Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission, 751 Route 73 North, Suite 12, Marlton, NJ 08053.

The on-site assessment is part of the department’s ongoing effort to obtain accreditation by demonstrating compliance with professional law enforcement standards.
